Joining the dots between musical genres and digital art forms, Aldeburgh Music’s Faster Than Sound is delighted to announce three year funding for a pioneering new programme which builds on the previous success of its one-off events at Bentwaters Airbase. Presenting a new year round programme of events, Faster Than Sound will take place in its new home, the Hoffmann Building - recently converted industrial spaces at Snape in Suffolk, England. Developing a fresh approach which focuses on commissions, residencies and collaboration, Faster Than Sound will present the first of its new events, featuring the world premiere of two commissions for a robotic musical quartet, as part of the Hoffmann Building's opening weekend celebrations.
Faster Than Sound began as a one-off experiment that through the huge interest from artists and audiences has now created a momentum of its own.
We’re thrilled that the Paul Hamlyn Foundation’s generous grant makes it possible for us to expand this work, introducing a much needed residency element. This exciting project is one of several major artistic initiatives that will take place in Aldeburgh Music’s fantastic new facilities.
Over the past 3 years Faster Than Sound has established itself as a unique meeting place for classically trained and electronic musicians to experiment with sound. Thanks to generous support from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Faster Than Sound is now able to build on this spirit of adventurous collaboration to create a year round cohesive programme that presents opportunities for artists to develop and explore new ways of working through week long Aldeburgh Residencies, world premiere performances of new commissions and an education programme, five times a year across three years (2009 – 2012).
