Tim Exile is taking the scenic route. His itinerary has taken in fresh faced forays into drum n bass, house and techno, choral and orchestral exploits, the high brow (he has an MA in electro acoustics) and the low brow, the experimental and the communicative, the ecclesiastic and the sacrilegious. Recent years have been dominated by revolutionary improvised, sometimes confrontational, live shows using technology he developed himself to free him from the shackles of the notebook and get out on the open stage and beyond, where machine and body can grow together in their own feral ecosystem of rhythm, sound, word and gesture. Early buds first appeared on branches of drum n bass and techno labels and latterly his more exploratory electronic compositions have bloomed on the Planet Mu label. Tim has recently signed a new deal, which will see Warp Records and Planet Mu jointly releasing a new body of work that successfully subsumes the diverse elements of his rich musical journey so far. For the first time we hear Tim’s voice, windswept with a wild choral sensibility, confidently recorded and laid over, compositionally adventurous yet similarly catchy song writing, and presented with the production and sound-mangling skill which Tim has obsessively chiseled over the years.
