UEA Electroacoustic Studios
UEA has one of the longest-established and most active electroacoustic studios in the country. Under the directorship of Simon Waters, the studio hosts composers and graduates from various countries, is the home to various courses and programmes, and promotes the longest continuously running series of electroacoustic music concerts in the UK. The studio now forms a semi-autonomous research unit involving two full-time faculty members and a research fellow, supporting around fourteen research student-composers. Links at national and international level with equivalent research-based studios are maintained by its visiting artist and composer series, a weekly postgraduate seminar, and the concert series. The concerts involve the installation of a multi-channel sound-environment in which the music is performed over a multi-loudspeaker diffusion system. Such events usually feature new works (sometimes world premieres), and typically present a varied programme of music involving new technologies. Students past and present feature among internationally-known figures as performers and composers, and music students are involved in installing and controlling the sound system for these concerts.
