Zoe Martlew
Zoe has played an enormous amount of music in all kinds of ways, with all kinds of people in a very large number of places. Slipping through security she has allowed to study at the Royal College and Academy of Music in London, Clare College, Cambridge and the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. Finding the restrictive corsetry of Brahms, the Haydn D major concerto and pointless baroque cello sonatas a little de trop, Zoe went modern and performed and recorded internationally as a soloist and with many new groups including London Simfonietta, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and Ensemble Modern, premiering and recording works by many composers around the world and regularly recording for radio. As soloist Zoe has appeared with the Northern Simfonia at the Huddersfield Festival, with Ensemble Bash at the Almeida Festival, as a Park Lane Group Young Artists recitalist at the Purcell Room, as well as at numerous festivals in the UK and abroad. She has worked extensively with live electronics, recently premiering Colin Riley’s concerto for cello, orchestra and live electronics with Sinfonia Viva and Brian Lock's concerto for cello, mixing desk and video. Her London solo recital series Series Z has met with great success and critical acclaim.
