Martin Allen For many years now, Martin has specialised in contemporary chamber music. He has taken part in a great many premieres of new works, both on stage and for broadcast,) He has worked with the London Sinfonietta and BBC Symphony Orchestra, and also done extensive film and television recording. He has been Principal Percussionist with several notable ensembles, amongst them, Lontano and The Gavin Bryars Ensemble and Ballet Rambert.

He has also been extremely active in the theatre, working for, primarily, the Royal National Theatre where he has been Music Director of a more than 20 shows.

He was a Proms soloist in ‘The Ring Dance of the Nazerene’; a part composed for him by Sir Harrison Birtwistle.

Extensive touring means that he has performed in North and South America, Australia, New Zealand and throughout Europe and the Far East. He also performs with the quartet ‘im’, which was recently chosen by Radio 3 Jazz as one of their emerging British bands.

Martin Allen played percussion in 2012’s performance of Star-shaped Biscuit. A new atmospheric opera devised and written by author, David Toop.
